A study in the Journal of Nuclear Medicine suggests that using PET/CT to measure F-18 FDG uptake could aid in identifying a patient's risk of abdominal aortic aneurysm rupture. Belgian researchers evaluated 28 patients with PET/CT, finding that those who tested positive for F-18 FDG uptake had a greater risk of rupture. "[W]e were able to correlate the hot spots of F-18 FDG uptake with high peak wall stress that, in some cases, corresponded to the point of rupture of the aneurysm," researchers said.
