Overweight shoppers who got a flier with health-related information as they entered a grocery store spent about $1.40 on unhealthy snacks, compared with $4.80 spent by those who got a comparison flier, researchers reported in the International Journal of Obesity. Utrecht University researcher Esther Papies said these types of diet suggestions should not include a threatening message but instead have positive phrases such as "a healthy weight."
