The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization has developed a toolkit to help producers cut their food waste, which amounts to 1.3 billion metric tons annually and equals the value of Switzerland's GDP. The toolkit also emphasizes the need to reuse and recycle food waste, rather than sending it to landfills, which is the most common practice. Instead, food waste can be used as a raw material or given to charities, the toolkit suggests.
