Mini-Vet School, a program started by New York veterinarian Jim Brown in 1998, features talks by local veterinarians geared toward a lay audience based on veterinary school topics such as internal medicine, avian diseases and zoo animal care. The five-week program features weekly two-hour evening sessions that draw a mix of people including teens hoping to one day be veterinarians, according to veterinarian Amanda Schepis, who is leading this year's program.
