William Wrigley Jr., born in 1861, was a natural salesman with a knack for building brands. While he didn't invent chewing gum, the two brands he launched in 1893, Juicy Fruit and Wrigley's Spearmint, reached sales of $750,000 by 1902, equal to $20 million in today's dollars.
