Qualcomm, which leads the Alliance for Wireless Power, has joined the Wireless Power Consortium as a regular member, leading to speculation that the rival standards groups will merge and unite behind WPC's Qi wireless-charging standard, DigiTimes reports, citing Taiwan-based manufacturers in the handset supply chain. Samsung Electronics has changed its allegiance from A4WP to WPC, the sources note. An A4WP/WPC combination could be a more powerful competitor with yet another wireless-charging technology group, the Power Matters Alliance.
