An obsession with food that is natural and that isn't genetically modified has turned the emphasis away from important nutrition and environmental issues such as having enough food to feed everyone on the planet, Michael Specter of The New Yorker said at the Academy of Nutrition & Dietetics' Food & Nutrition Conference & Expo. Specter said technology that increases food yields without using pesticides or water will be important in the future, and that concerns about GMO foods should be handled through political means and not by criticizing the technology.
