The Australian Olive Association is pressing Parliament to make the nation's voluntary olive oil standard mandatory -- a step it says would empower the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission to take action against falsely labeled olive oil. The current standard has already inspired similar standards in other countries, noted association president Paul Miller. "The most important impact of that is that it will mean more consumers will get the real thing delivered to them, as labeled," he said.
