A bill that would implement an offshore-drilling pact between the U.S. and Mexico has been approved by the Senate. "In addition to opening up nearly 1.5 million acres of the outer continental shelf, it also ensures that any exploration along our maritime border adheres to the highest degree of safety and environmental standards," said Sen. Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska, a sponsor of the legislation. The House has passed a different version of the bill.
