House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, has told Republican lawmakers in private that he won't let a partisan standoff over the debt limit force the government to default on debt. If necessary, Boehner will rely on Republican and Democratic votes in the House to raise the cap, he told colleagues. The assurance comes as the Treasury Department warns that allowing the government to default might lead to another financial crisis.
