A report involving 2,400 5- to 6-year-olds showed that 68% of children in Brazil, China, India, Nigeria, Pakistan and Russia correctly identified at least one cigarette brand logo in a matching game, according to a study in the journal Pediatrics. Because previous studies have found that childhood exposure to tobacco advertisements is linked to an increased risk of taking up the habit as adults, stricter regulations should be implemented to counter tobacco companies' marketing efforts, researchers said.
