Choice Hotels International saw conversions spike 54% in the third quarter compared to a year earlier, hitting 109 conversions, a record since the recession. The brand, which includes conversion leader Comfort Inn, took a hit during the government shutdown, executives said, as a significant number of Choice hotels located near national parks saw a drop in occupancy. But overall, the company is seeing an increase in revenue per available room and expects more new construction among franchisees.
