Consumers who were shown "traffic light" style labels that communicated health information about food products are more likely to choose a healthier option, according to a study conducted in Massachusetts and published in Preventive Medicine. The label system, which is currently voluntarily used in the U.K., uses red, yellow and green color coding to rate the healthiness of a meal based on its ingredients and fat and calorie content.
