Work is expected to begin on the first 1.3-mile section of the proposed $5.45 billion Northern Beltline project in Alabama, after its permit was approved by the Army Corps of Engineers. The first section will link Alabama 75 and Alabama 79. The 52-mile roadway will be on metro Birmingham's northern face, and is expected to take around 30 to 35 years to complete.
