A study in the Journal of the American Chemical Society suggests a new copper complex with a 12-hour half-life might help detect and image beta amyloid plaque in the brains of patients with Alzheimer's disease. Agents with longer half-lives are more suitable for shipment to rural centers, allowing more widespread use of Alzheimer's imaging, chemist Paul Donnelly said. The agent was tested in postmortem tissue, and researchers plan to work with mouse models next.
