Chevron Phillips Chemical has received approval from its board to move forward with several petrochemical projects in Texas worth up to $6 billion, all of which will begin construction in 2014. The company has awarded a contract to a joint venture of JGC and Fluor Enterprises to build an ethane cracker facility in Baytown, while other projects include two polyethylene units at its Old Ocean site and a hexane plant. Expected to generate as many as 10,000 engineering and construction jobs and 400 direct jobs, the projects are scheduled for completion by 2017.
