Studies show that people are eating more snacks, which may add to obesity problems, and registered dietitian Richard Mattes said eating frequency may be a bigger problem than food portion size. Still, small meals and snacks often are recommended for weight loss, so the types of food eaten as snacks are important. Dietitian Jill Weisenberger said snacking can be a way to add more nutrients, such as fruits and vegetables, to a diet.
