Initiatives are taking place around the country to help turn high-school students' interests in science, technology, engineering and math into careers, and keep those students from turning away from STEM. The New York City Department of Education is working with the College Board and the National Math and Science Initiative to expand student participation in AP STEM classes. The Pathways to Prosperity Network is helping schools align technical-education programs with the needs of local employers.
