The FDA has no problem with the wholesale importation of generic drugs from countries such as Brazil, India and China, but it hates the idea of consumers purchasing brand-name drugs from countries like Canada, pharmacologist Joe Graedon writes. The cost of generic drugs is low enough that it doesn't make sense to buy from other countries, so the issues related to a new Maine law allowing direct purchase of foreign drugs will mainly be about name-brand therapies.
