Only 3.3% of patients with bone metastases from prostate cancer received a larger dose of single-fraction radiotherapy, even though studies show it can be as effective at reducing pain as multiple treatments at lower doses, researchers reported in the Journal of the American Medical Association. "Single-fraction treatment has substantial benefits for patient-centric palliative care, including greater quality of life and convenience, reduced travel time, and lower treatment costs," researchers reported.
