Consumers around the world will spend $15.5 billion on mobile applications this year, more than the past three years combined, and they'll download 90 million apps, up from 49 million in 2012, according to a report from IHS. Apps from Google and Apple account for 85% of the total spending, and more than 80% of spending will come from in-app purchases as game developers offer their apps for free and charge for additional purchases.
