The University of Missouri-Kansas City has received two research grants that total more than $2 million. A $1.2 million grant from the U.S. Energy Department's Joint BioEnergy Institute will go toward the study of mold and how it can help create fuel from plant material. The other grant, for almost $1 million from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, goes to help nursing and social work students perform screenings to evaluate patients for alcohol and drug abuse.
