The Higgs boson may have been a key to the creation of dark matter in the early universe, a pair of physicists suggest in a paper set to be published in Physical Review Letters. University of Michigan's Sean Tulin and Geraldine Servant of Barcelona's Catalan Institute for Research and Advanced Study call their theory Higgsogenesis, after baryogenesis, the process that produced asymmetry between baryons and antibaryons in the young universe. "We really make the Higgs a key player, whereas in many other cosmological theories it's just a by-product," Tulin said.
