The U.S. has approved the MidAmerica St. Louis Airport in Mascoutah, Ill., to accept imports of blueberries and certain other fruits and vegetables that require cold treatment to reduce pest risks. "This action will facilitate the importation of fruit requiring cold treatment while continuing to provide protection against the introduction of fruit flies and other insect pests into the United States," according to the U.S. Federal Register. The airport is expected to receive at least 800 flights of produce requiring cold treatment per year.
