As the Los Angeles school district considers the future of its one-to-one iPad program, officials now say that if the district does not meet its goal of spending $400 million on iPads, then the devices will cost $770 each -- 14% more per device than they would if the full plan is implemented. The district negotiated the lower price with Apple, but if the district scales back or pulls out of the pilot program, the tablets will be more expensive.
