Louisiana is playing a role in the domestic oil and natural gas production surge that is allowing the U.S. to become the world's top oil and gas producer, experts say. The state provides nearly 10% of domestic gas output, and it has sharply increased its figures in the last five years, said Patrick Courreges of the Louisiana Department of Natural Resources. Shale plays "are the main driver in why we are beginning to see these milestones that we are achieving in natural gas production," said Gifford Briggs, vice president of the Louisiana Oil & Gas Association.
