After emergency radios failed during the shooting at the Navy Yard last month, two members of Congress are calling for swift implementation of the First Responder Network Authority. Before the government shutdown, the House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Communications and Technology was set to hold an oversight hearing on FirstNet during the first week of October. "[I]t is critical that the lessons of this latest tragedy be passed along to FirstNet, so it can design the future network to avoid such communications breakdowns," Reps. Henry Waxman, D-Calif., and Anna Eshoo, D-Calif., wrote in a letter to the Federal Communications Commission.
