More than 1,000 Maryland middle- and high-school students from 28 schools spent a day soaking up German culture with lectures and workshops during German-American Day at McDaniel College. Students learned about German music and movies and heard from a Holocaust survivor during the event. "Whatever workshop they choose, it's an educational opportunity for them where they can learn something about German culture," said Mohamed Esa, a foreign-languages professor at the college who started the event in 1995.
