MediaTek will introduce its own system-on-a-chip for 4G smartphones based on ARM's 64-bit designs that the chip maker says will spark a decline in the price of high-end handsets by providing competition to Qualcomm. "We will push LTE as hard as we can. For a technology to become truly widespread, there must be products that are priced reasonably," said MediaTek's Johan Lodenius. In a report issued Tuesday, research firm CCS Insight predicted that the entrance of LTE-based chipsets from MediaTek, Broadcom, Intel and Spreadtrum will lead to lower-priced smartphones.
