A study of pairs of twins in which one was obese and the other thin suggested fat accumulation in the liver may be a measure of metabolically healthy obesity, University of Helsinki researchers said. The study found that obese and thin twins who had similar levels of liver fat had equally healthy metabolic profiles. However, if the obese twin had more liver fat, metabolic profiles diverged with the obese twin having higher insulin resistance, inflammation and dyslipidemia.
