Although incentive payments have increased adoption of health information technology, a new poll shows that a majority of providers prefer more traditional ways to communicate with patients. Ninety-one percent of physicians and case managers surveyed still use telephones to reach their patients, while 74% prefer letters and 71% opt for face-to-face conversations. Only 15% of respondents reported using patient portals to contact patients, while 7% reported using remote monitoring devices and 8% used mobile applications.
