Ford Motor is opting for near-dry machining at six of its plants around the world, a technique that precisely delivers a fine mist of lubricant where and when it's needed, writes Josh Cable. The technique -- also known as minimum-quantity lubrication -- eliminates the need for a coolant system across most engine-production lines and cuts oil usage by 80% or more.
