Primary care physicians may have to rethink the traditional one-on-one patient relationship in new health care delivery models that emphasize a team approach and make teams responsible for maintaining patient relationships, Thad Schilling, M.D., medical director of the patient-centered medical home at Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates, told a primary care staffing webinar. Kirsten Meisinger, M.D., medical director of the Union Square Family Health Center in Somerville, Mass., said physicians are seeing more patients and it becomes a challenge to have meaningful relationships with large panels, especially as primary care moves more into chronic disease management.
