Parents of elementary-school students in the East Greenbush Central School District in New York attended an informational session on Tuesday that covered how curricula for math and other subjects will change under Common Core State Standards. A teacher showed examples of math lessons, including one where students were asked to identify the number of dots on a die without counting. "It focuses the kids on identifying how many objects are in a group quickly, rather than pointing and counting 1, 2, 3," teacher Maureen McHugh said.
