Rice University researchers, working with a business partner, have devised a method for protecting implanted medical devices from potential hackers. The "Heart-to-Heart" system would initiate interaction with a device, including cardiac defibrillators and pacemakers, through a connection with a second device that utilizes the patient's heartbeat as a password. In the case of a cardiac event, the implanted device would permit open access.
