J.C. Penney will open the doors at most of its 1,100 stores at 8 p.m. on Thanksgiving, the same time as rival Macy's, becoming the latest retailer to move up its official start to the holiday shopping season. The retailer will remain open until 9 p.m. the following day, and will hire at least 35,000 seasonal workers this year, up almost 50% from last year's seasonal staffing levels.
