Research published in the Journal of Clinical Oncology showed that advanced PET imaging can help clinicians decide which stage III lung cancer patients should get more treatment after chemotherapy and radiation. The study involved 250 patients in 60 cancer centers who underwent pre- and post-treatment PET scans. Researchers found that post-treatment PET scans were able to show that those with high levels of FDG uptake had more aggressive tumors with a greater tendency to recur.
