Social media spam went through the roof in the first six months of 2013, increasing 355%, according to a report from Nexgate. About 1 in every 200 social media posts is spam, the report found, with 5% of all social media applications seriously affected by spammers. "[S]ocial spam is becoming a real business for spammers. You can see it in the increasing sophistication and diversification of the mechanisms used to distribute spam, and not just in the increase in volume," Nexgate CEO Devin Redmond said in a statement.
