Gigabit Passive Optical Networking is forecast to be the leading fiber-access technology within three years, but its success will depend on the implementation of industrywide standards to ensure interoperability, a report says. According to a survey by Informa Telecoms & Media, conducted on behalf of the Broadband Forum, a majority of GPON operators report complications deploying equipment from different vendors, with interoperability surpassed only by price in terms of decision-making importance.
