U.S. researchers examined Medicare data on acute myocardial infarction treatment and found that health care spending for the condition increased by 16% per patient from 1998 to 2008, rising from $37,026 to $43,120. Nearly 75% of that increase involved care 31 days to a year following the index myocardial infarction, according to the report in JAMA Internal Medicine.
