Safeway plans to jettison 72-store chain Dominick's Finer Foods in the Chicago area by early 2014 because of declining profit and underperformance. Dominick's is Safeway's lowest-performing division, but Safeway President and CEO Robert Edwards says he is "highly confident" the chain will sell, although not to a single buyer. "We'd love to find a buyer for 72 stores, but it probably will play out in pieces," Edwards said.
