Phone-makers are turning to Sapphire in much greater numbers as a durable material for protecting lenses, buttons and displays, according to the IHS research firm, which predicts demand overall will almost triple in 2016 from 2012 consumption. Limited to smartphones, demand could multiply fourfold between last year and 2014 due its strength and scratch-resistant properties when compared with glass, IHS contends.
