As clinicians increasingly adopt the approach, SCAI has published a consensus statement outlining best practices for transradial angiography and interventional procedures in Catheterization and Cardiovascular Interventions. "The data are strong to support the use of the radial approach," said lead author and SCAI fellow Dr. Sunil V. Rao. "The thing that will inhibit the adoption of this approach is lack of good outcomes, not because of the procedure but because people aren't practicing it the right way." The paper outlines ways to monitor radial artery occlusion, limit radiation exposure and transition to transradial intervention in practice.
