Mary Jo White, head of the Securities and Exchange Commission, is touting a website the regulatory agency plans to launch next month for its ability to use the same types of market data that high-frequency traders use. "We expect this new tool to transform the debate on market structure by focusing as never before on data, not anecdote," White said at an industry conference. The SEC plans to use its new capabilities, in part, to determine the degree to which technology has given HFT firms an advantage.
