Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric Shinseki says 3.8 million veterans will not get disability checks in November if the federal government shutdown extends late into this month, and more than $6 billion in payments in all could be stopped. Shinseki testified today before the House Committee on Veterans' Affairs about the impact of the government shutdown on the VA. The shutdown has already slowed the VA's progress in reducing its disability claims backlog.
