A survey of 42 Cleveland Clinic ICU patients on continuous venovenous hemodialysis found that antibiotic doses were too low about 20% of the time, according to lead investigator Marianna Fedorenko, a pharmacy resident now at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis. The clinic has since added an electronic alert for patients undergoing this treatment. "These patients need a closer eye than some other intensive care unit patients," Fedorenko said.
