Patients who have undergone bariatric surgery for weight loss are more likely to maintain their weight loss if they also have body contouring procedures to remove excess skin, according to a study published in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. Many insurance plans will not cover post-bariatric body contouring, but some will cover panniculectomy to remove an "apron" of tissue and skin below the belly button that can cause back pain as well as skin infections and ulcers.
