At the American College of Chest Physicians annual meeting, a study reported that ultrasound use in the intensive care unit led to less radiation exposure for patients because fewer X-rays and CT scans were needed. "We found that the use of ultrasound to diagnose patients greatly reduced radiation exposure for patients without negatively affecting their health," said Dr. Margarita Oks. "It was also cost-effective."
