University of Illinois researchers say restaurant diners at the same table tend to order from the same menu categories, suggesting that people want to fit in with the group. The study used different types of menus, including ones with calorie counts and traffic lights designating the calorie levels of items. Larger tables of diners using traffic-light menus ordered fewer calories, the study found.
