Installation of rooftop solar projects has been growing among middle-class neighborhoods in Arizona, California and New Jersey from 2011 and 2012, according to a study by the Center for American Progress. In an analysis of solar installations from these states, the study found that at least 60% of homeowners who installed rooftop solar panels had median incomes ranging from $40,000 to $90,000. This undermines the statement that only the wealthy can adopt solar energy, since incentives and solar programs have reduced the cost of the technology.
